Workforce capacity is one of the most important levers for success in achieving organisational priorities.  Conversely, inadequate planning and skills shortages pose one of the greatest risks to getting the right outcomes.

To deliver on these priorities, organisations need the best data available to manage their workforce needs. Attracting, developing and retraining the right people depend on understanding an organisation’s internal and external labour markets. Many organisations are in a good position to identify and quantify their critical workforce issues and some have developed sophisticated workforce planning tools. 
 
SkillGAP is a tool to assist organisations in evidence-based workforce planning and analysis to improve the capacity of the sector and to identify and manage workforce planning priorities.  It also means the Government will have a more robust overview of common issues and be better able to identify the most urgent and critical workforce issues in the sector as a whole.
